Your journey begins with a warm welcome into the vibrant community of Granada. You will be introduced to your host, a professional painter who has spent 20 years capturing the Spanish light. During this introduction, you can meet fellow travelers from around the world, who share the same passion for art and travel. You will get an overview of the week ahead, where the goal is simple: to bring people together to draw, paint and be inspired by the breathtaking Alhambra.
Before you touch your brush to paper, you will set the foundation for your creative week. You will receive expert help and advice on your travel and accommodation to ensure your stay is comfortable and stress-free. The professional painter will guide you in organizing your materials; whether you prefer oils, watercolours or pencils. Next, you will prepare for your first session by scouting the perfect angle at the Bermejas Towers. You will also get a 1-hour guided tour of the Rodriguez Acosta Foundation to prime your artistic senses for the beauty of Granada.
Your five-day plan is designed to help you create a striking picture - or study pictures of the Alhambra. You will get to capture this iconic fortress from two of the best viewpoints in the city! The one viewpoint is the Bermejas Towers from the south, and the other one from the Albaicin neighbourhood on the north side. Here is what your journey looks like: DAY 1: You will start by painting the Alcazaba from the southern view at the Bermejas Towers. In the evening, you can join an optional Tapas tour! DAY 2: After a morning visit to the Rodriguez Acosta Foundation, you will spend the afternoon painting in the lush Carmen de los Martires. Wrap up the day with an optional Flamenco show! DAY 3: You will go deep into the history with a guided visit inside the Alhambra Palace itself. This is your time for historical context and pure inspiration. DAY 4: You will get hands-on with an Intaglio Handprint session! You will create a drawing, etch a perspex plate, ink it up and produce your very own handprint to paint with watercolour. DAY 5: To finish your masterpiece, you will paint the Alhambra from the North side in the historic Albaicin neighborhood, followed by free time to explore the city. For the intaglio hand printing session you will: 1. Do the initial drawing of the Alhambra 2. Etch a perspex plate 3. Ink up the plate 4. Produce the handprint 5. Paint the handprint with watercolour
You have the freedom to socialize as much or as little as you like. During the 5 day retreat experience, you can join the group for Moroccan tea or a Tapas crawl or you can use your free sessions to step away and explore the winding streets of Granada on your own. You will leave with a heart full of memories and a portfolio full of art that captures the true essence of Spain!
