Woodcarving in a Santorini Cave Studio!
Santorini is famous for its blue domes and sunsets, but have you ever explored the hidden aura of its traditional villages?
Your chance to become a local baker! Meet a team of locals in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, and learn about this ancient technique of baking Lavash, an Armenian traditional bread. The workshop will take place in open air space in a garden right by a Tonir (traditional clay oven),
placed on the ground. You will watch a live demonstration of traditional flour making using traditional cooking tools, such as stone mortar and hand millstone. Then, it’s your turn to learn how to roll the dough near the Tonir, followed by tasting the freshly baked Lavash with cheese, fresh herbs and vegetables.
Get ready to meet the masters! The local experts will warmly welcome you at the workshop space and give you a brief introduction on the legendary history of Lavash tradition, that has been passed down through generations. You will get a full overview on the day’s hands-on activities and safety tips for working around the Tonir (traditional clay oven).
Next, it’s time to get your hands on the authentic tools and fresh ingredients that make this tradition so special. You will start by gathering everything you need to create flour from scratch, just as it’s been done for centuries. You will head over to the Tonir area for a live demonstration of the ancient wheat-processing equipment. Get ready to see the stone mortar and millstone in action and involve yourself in a truly immersive experience! This is your chance to connect with the raw elements of the earth before the fire starts.
The magic begins as you experience a live demonstration of flour making: beating wheat in a stone mortar and grinding the wheat with a hand millstone. You will learn how to roll the dough right next to the glowing heat of the Tonir (please note that the dough is already prepared). As you work, you will hear the incredible stories and cultural secrets that make this bread the soul of Armenia. Finally, you will have the opportunity to watch the baking process up close to the hot clay. This experience is more than a meal; it’s a journey back in time!
Now comes the most rewarding part of this experience: tasting the freshly baked Lavash with local cheese, fresh greens and vegetables. Afterward, the time is yours to enjoy, snap some beautiful photos, relax in the green garden or take a short walk to the nearby shops for a local souvenir.
