O House Coworking Space: More Than a Desk, It's Your Cypriot Hub
After a productive session at O House Coworking Space, it’s time to meet the vibrant local culture...
Craft your own 3 unique jewelry pieces in a cozy, home-based studio in Athens. This hands-on workshop dives into traditional and modern Greek jewelry-making techniques, starting with a warm welcome and an introduction to the ancient art of wire and beadwork. Then, you will create three jewelry pieces: aluminum wire earrings, an aluminum ring and a beautiful semi-precious beaded bracelet. You will enjoy a cup of Greek coffee or herbal tea, accompanied by a traditional sweet, while we talk about materials, techniques, and the symbolism of semi-precious stones. No prior experience is needed—just your curiosity and love for handmade things! You'll leave with 2-3 finished pieces, new skills, and a deeper connection to local Greek art.
The local artisan will welcome you to his studio with a friendly greeting and provide an overview of the space. He will explain the location of tools and materials and outline how the workshop will unfold. You will be introduced to the history of wireworking and beadwork in Greek jewelry, highlighting the traditional techniques employed. The artisan will discuss how Greek culture has influenced modern jewelry making and how these traditions inspire his designs. You will be served Greek coffee or herbal tea alongside a traditional sweet (such as baklava or loukoumi), fostering a relaxed and social atmosphere. While you enjoy your refreshments, he will continue discussing jewelry making and answer any questions you may have.
The workshop will continue introducing the materials you will be using, such as aluminum wire, semi-precious stones, beads, and more. You will see many examples from the artisan’s collection and other handmade pieces to get inspired for your creations.
To begin with, the artisan will explain and demonstrate the creation of aluminum wire earrings, aluminum plate bracelets and semi-precious stone bracelets, guiding participants through each technique. You will then begin crafting your jewelry, with him assisting as needed. You will use pliers and work boards to start shaping aluminum wire into earring designs and use files to soften the edges or smooth out any sharp corners. Next, you will form the aluminum cuff bracelet using flat strips, pliers, and hammers to bend and shape it into the final form. Finally, on beading boards, the artisan will guide you in selecting semi-precious stones and beads to create personalized bracelets, encouraging creative experimentation and creating a bracelet that fits your wrist perfectly. During this workshop, you will experiment with colors and materials to create designs that are uniquely yours.
Once everyone is finished, you can showcase your creations with other participants and share your experience, while the instructor will provide you with care instructions. At this point, you may browse and purchase the artisan's jewelry collection and receive information on upcoming events.
