On the cliffs of the Limassol district, the ancient city of Kourion still shows off its treasures: floors covered in mosaics, laid by skilled hands more than 1,500 years ago. Many visitors admire them from a path. In our ancient Kourion mosaic workshop in Cyprus, you go one step further and create one yourself.
In a warm local studio near the Kourion archaeological site, you recreate a real motif from the mosaics of the House of Eustolios. It is history you can touch, cut, place and take home.
Your workshop begins with an introduction to Kourion, one of the most important ancient city-kingdoms of Cyprus. Your host shares a private collection of mosaic patterns inspired by Kourion's ancient floors and shows how the artisans of the past used color, geometry and nature to decorate homes and public spaces.
By the time you choose your tiles, you already understand the story behind the pattern you are about to build. That is what makes this more than a craft class: every piece you place connects you to the people who walked these floors centuries ago.
Next, you learn how to cut and shape mosaic tiles. Your host teaches you both traditional ancient techniques and modern artisan tools, so you can feel the difference between the two. The first few cuts take concentration. Then a gentle rhythm takes over, and the world outside the studio seems to slow down.

Now the creative part begins. Piece by piece, you build an ancient Kourion motif. Your host guides you in handling each tile to get the right geometry, the secret to a mosaic that looks balanced and beautiful.
While you work, you enjoy a traditional Cypriot coffee or a glass of local lemonade. The studio is calm and welcoming, the kind of place where time slips by happily and conversation flows between tiles.

To finish, you varnish your mosaic to protect its design and colors. Then comes our favorite tip: after the workshop, visit the nearby Kourion archaeological site and look for the pattern you just created. Standing over the ancient original, knowing exactly how it was made, is a moment many guests never forget.
A real ancient motif. You do not make a generic design. You recreate a pattern from Kourion's own history.
Two ways of making. You learn ancient and modern tile-cutting techniques side by side and discover how the craft has evolved.
A perfect pair with Kourion. The workshop and the archaeological site complete each other, turning a sightseeing stop into a story you are part of.
A souvenir with centuries behind it. Your finished mosaic carries a design first created more than 1,500 years ago, made new by your own hands.
History lovers who want to go deeper than information boards. Couples and friends looking for a creative day out. Solo travelers who enjoy calm, focused activities. Anyone who has ever stood in front of an ancient mosaic and wondered how it was made.
