e-Green Business Cyprus: A Focus on Sustainable Tourism

Book My Culture start-up project was presented at e-Green Business Sustainability event, which is part of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme, organized by Citizens in Power in Nicosia, Cyprus.

We had the opportunity to present in detail how Book My Culture aligns with the SDG goals and contributes to sustainable tourism through three pillars: Economic, Social and Environmental.

Economic: helping local communities grow

Our vision strongly focuses on the economic benefits of sustainable tourism. We aim to create new income streams for rural areas, directly supporting the local economy and helping to sustain and create new job opportunities. This also involves providing digitalized offerings, such as the online booking automation system, to enhance efficiency and accessibility for local businesses and international travelers.

Social: preserving the cultural heritage

On the social side, we're dedicated to enriching the travel experience while promoting meaningful cultural exchange. This means including communities and destinations that are often off the beaten path, encouraging travelers to slow down and truly experience the places they visit. We aim to empower locals to share their heritage, collaborating closely with NGOs, cultural centers, and cooperatives. It’s very important to raise awareness and promote intangible cultural heritage, because if no one even talks about them, there is a risk of them disappearing. It's also crucial for us to be youth-friendly and accessibility-friendly, ensuring the activities are accessible to vulnerable groups and young people. For this reason, we will collaborate with external bodies, like the European Youth Card and another startup here in Cyprus, which promotes accessibility. Overall, we aim to support community tourism that educates travelers about local customs and traditions, contributing to global peace.

Environmental: for a greener future

Finally, environmental sustainability is at the heart of our approach. We encourage the consumption of local products and promote the tasting of these products during workshops. We will suggest sustainable routes and provide information to help travelers understand and calculate their carbon footprint. This includes suggesting local accommodations and zero-waste hotels. We actively collaborate with vendors who contribute to the environment, such as local farms and NGOs, to ensure that our tourism practices support and protect our natural resources.
